How to chill out this summer in the Innsbruck region

When the sun is scorching, the temperatures are soaring and shade is in short supply, it’s time to cool off. Luckily, the Innsbruck region offers plenty of opportunities to do just that – whether it’s up on a mountain or down in the valley, in the heart of the city or out in the countryside. Here are three top tips for finding some alpine refreshment and keeping your cool this summer:

Feeling the heat? The Innsbruck region offers plenty of opportunities to cool off this summer.

Take a refreshing dip

There’s nothing more refreshing than taking a leap and plunging into cool water – and no better place to do this than one of our inviting bathing lakes, glittering in the summer sunshine. You can find these cooling oases throughout the Innsbruck region, including in Mieming and Natters, where child-friendly facilities, playgrounds and an aquapark provide plenty of fun for the whole family. So does the Lanser See, an idyllically situated alpine lake that boasts excellent water quality.

Find a shady spot

Local gorges offer an attractive opportunity cool off in the shade while enjoying nature. Why not take a tour through the atmospheric wilderness of the Ehnbachklamm gorge near Zirl, for example, where you can follow the cool waters of the bubbling Ehnbach brook and drink in glimpses of an extraordinary world of flora and fauna? For equally impressive scenery, head to the Mühlauer Klamm, a gorge within the Innsbruck city boundaries where you can discover little waterfalls and more of nature’s secrets.

Head up high

If you’re keen on hiking but not so keen on the hot weather, then the Drei-Seen-Runde (Three Lakes Circuit) in Kühtai, at around 2,000 metres above sea level, is definitely the ideal trail for you. This route takes you past three different bodies of water, all of them set against a picturesque mountain backdrop. The Sellraintal valley also offers various hikes with the added refreshing bonus of babbling brooks or rushing streams to discover. The mountaineering villages of Sellrain, Gries and St. Sigmund, nestled between the imposing peaks, make great starting points for exploring the area.
