Paznaun gears up for a new winter season in 2026/27

Paznaun is entering the 2026/27 winter season with a host of new developments, focusing on greater comfort, modern infrastructure and attractive offers for families, cross-country skiers, freestyle fans and ambitious mountain sports enthusiasts. In Ischgl, the new Höllkarbahn C2 will provide faster and more comfortable transport within the ski area. Galtür is investing in the further development of Silvapark with the new Kopsseebahn, while stored snow will make it possible to open the first kilometres of cross-country skiing in the Vermunt area in early November. Kappl is expanding its offering with a new snowpark, two freestyle camps and the ‘Hohe Spitze’ and ‘Gonda’ ski routes, while See is introducing new family and activity experiences with a free ski course for young children in March 2027 and ice climbing at Bergliswand. Together, the four Paznaun resorts are presenting a varied winter programme that combines technical innovation and an early start to the season with family-friendly and alpine experiences.

The new Höllkarbahn C2 will begin operating in the Silvretta Arena Ischgl/Samnaun in winter 2026/27. The detachable eight-seater D-Line chairlift from Doppelmayr replaces the existing Höllkarbahn and features weather-protection bubbles, heated seats and state-of-the-art monitoring systems for boarding and disembarking.

The new lift covers an inclined length of 1,650 metres, running from the valley station at an altitude of 2,141 metres to the mountain station at 2,468 metres above sea level. With 89 chairs and a transport capacity of up to 4,200 passengers per hour, it reduces the journey time to around 5.1 minutes. The backs of the chairs will feature themed designs telling the story of Silvrettaseilbahn AG.

The new Höllkarbahn forms part of an extensive modernisation programme: together with the already upgraded Höllbodenbahn C1 and Sassgalunbahn C3, Silvrettaseilbahn AG is investing more than €50 million in additional comfort and improved visitor flow management throughout the ski area.

In the Kopssee area of Silvapark Galtür, a detachable six-seater chairlift with weather-protection bubbles is being constructed and will begin operating in winter 2026/27. The new Kopsseebahn replaces the existing Kopsseelift I and II drag lifts, providing greater comfort and quality.

The lift will be equipped with a total of 56 chairs and will have a transport capacity of around 2,400 passengers per hour. Covering an inclined length of 1,125 metres, it will run from the valley station at 1,827 metres to the mountain station at an altitude of 2,144 metres above sea level.

The former Höllkarbahn from Ischgl is being repurposed for the new Kopsseebahn. After being dismantled, the lift underwent a comprehensive overhaul and technical modifications before being rebuilt in Galtür. This gives a proven lift installation a new purpose within Paznaun.

Galtür aims to give cross-country skiers an exceptionally early start to winter in the 2026/27 season. Using stored snow, a cross-country skiing track of around five kilometres is expected to be available in the Vermunt area from 5 November 2026.

The initiative will provide early-season training opportunities for ambitious cross-country skiers and give visitors the chance to enjoy their first kilometres on cross-country skis even before the official start of the winter season. This further strengthens Galtür’s position as a high-altitude cross-country skiing destination with a long season.

Kappl is expanding its winter sports offering in several ways for winter 2026/27. With the new ‘Hohe Spitze’ and ‘Gonda’ ski routes, the ski area will increase from 42 to a total of 45.5 kilometres of pistes. Together with See, the Kappl & See ski area will offer 88 kilometres of pistes.

At the same time, a new snowpark is being created with several areas catering for different ability levels. Part of the snowpark will be the ‘SunnyCross’, a cross course featuring rollers, banked turns and special obstacles, where winter sports enthusiasts can compete in a fun and playful setting. Beginner-friendly features such as boxes and kickers, along with further highlights including a Rainbow Bridge, round off the offering, providing families, children and freestyle fans with varied opportunities to gain their first experience and develop their skills.

In addition, two new two-day freestyle camps for children and teenagers will take place during winter 2026/27. The Shred Kids Freestyle Camps are scheduled for 19 and 20 December 2026 and 20 and 21 March 2027. Guided by experienced coaches, young participants will work on their technique, style and new tricks in small groups organised according to age and ability level. Families can take advantage of a particularly attractive offer in March 2027: between 6 and 20 March 2027, pre-school children up to the age of 6.99 years staying at a FAMILY PLUS partner accommodation will receive a free ski course over four half-days. The offer requires a minimum stay of five nights at a participating FAMILY PLUS partner accommodation and the purchase of an adult ski pass for the Kappl & See ski area. Another winter experience awaits mountain sports fans at the Bergliswand icefall, also known as Schwarze Wand. The varied terrain offers both moderate lines for less experienced ice climbers and more demanding ice and mixed routes. The starting point is situated at an altitude of around 2,100 metres and can be reached from the top station of the Medrigjochbahn in approximately 90 minutes.
